Homeschooling with Allen Jr.

I have been reading other blogs and gathering information from the Internet about ideas and things for Allen  Jr.  He loves doing worksheets, but he will fly through those, if I'm not watching him and I needed more to keep him busy.  For Christmas,  we (my Mother, Allen and I) bought him the "Your Baby Can Read" DVD set.  He loves watching videos/DVDs, plus we had two VHS of the Your Baby can Read from when he was little.  He really enjoyed them, anyway, I have been using these some and he does enjoy watching them, using the book and flash cards that come with each DVD.   Back to where I was going.....I have gone to the Dollar Tree and Teacher Supply store(s) to purchase things for him to do.  Thanks to Stacy Jo, Annette and a few others, I found lacing beads (which we already had some, but I needed some to take with me places that I did not mind if we lost them), foam Number and Alphabet puzzles, pom-poms, containers, army figures, charts, learning cards, etc all at the Dollar Tree.  I went to Lakeshore Learning (www.lakeshorelearning.com) and bought some File Folder games, in the past I have printed these off and made my own from www.filefolderfun.com (Thanks Shannon for that information several months back), but I need a printer cartridge and really did not have the time right now to make more, so I bought some.  They have worked out great, he seems to really like them and has to stop and think about what he is doing.  I also got these there and they work great....Sequence Rummy Puzzle cards by Trend.  He has to put the cards in the correct sequence.  What I also liked about them was they were only $2.99.  http://www.trendenterprises.com/ProdOneDetail.cfm?ItemId=T-

With the pom-poms from the Dollar tree I have made up a game(s) for him and he has to sort, count, etc.  We are working on his fine motor skills as well as his developmental skills.

This school year has been a challenge for me in having to keep him busy and find things that are good for him so he does not get board.  I have a few other things I'm working on, but have not gotten them together yet due to the printer-working on getting that this week.

Also I wanted to say a thank you to Becky for showing me this blog http://confessionsofahomeschooler.blogspot.com/   This Homeschool Mom has some wonderful ideas and that is where I got some of the things I'm doing with him from.

  2. I think this is the longest post I have ever seen on your blog! ;) Usually, you say so much with very few words. I have wondered often how your days are going with Allen Jr. being home this year. I know it must be hard to adjust, but it sounds like you are doing a great job.
